Even closer. The back and sides of this bass is a quilted maple. Pictures do not do justice to it's depth.

I know that basses sell more quickly if they are artificially antiqued. It also helps hide shoddy workmanship. Strad made new instruments. They were bright of color in yellows, reds, and orange. Many are still like this—without the dark look that many associate with age. I am not trying to liken myself with Strad, I am just agreeing with that concept. I want to show off my work, so I try to couple the brightest of colors with a deep, clear varnish.
